The Morris Commercial PV van was a pioneering 'forward control' van. Production began briefly prior to the Second world war with only 52 vehicles produced, (none of these are known to survive). Production started again in 1946 and lasted until 1953 with almost 16,000 vehicles produced. Of those made less than 40 are known to survive in the UK. The PV was powered by a OHV 4 cylinder engine with 2050 capacity, it had a 4 speed gearbox. The body was a basic 'ash' wood frame with Aluminium clad sides, it featured sliding doors and a canvas roof. The rear doors opened the full width of the van however the police version commonly known as the 'Black Maria' featured a central one piece door, bulkhead and steel roof.
The Morris Commercial PV van is very rare with very survivors and even less that are roadworthy. I have created this website to create a reference point for those interested in the PV and those perhaps currently restoring an example. Please feel free to contact me, we have restored the 3 vehicles in the picture above and would be delighted to receive any questions or information.
